Game Recaps: June 25th

Yorkton Cardinals vs Weyburn Beavers 3 – 12

The Weyburn Beavers got back into the win column after losing their WCBL record 16-game winning streak against the Swift Current 57’s on Sunday, June 23rd after they defeated the Yorkton Cardinals by a score of 12-3. The win improves the Beavers to 17-3, while the Cardinals fall even further behind in the standings at 2-18 for the season.

Beavers designated hitter, Drake Pilat went 3-4 in the victory with a double and two runs scored, while his teammate Dominic Sere went 2-2 with a homer and four RBI’s.

Chase Stratton got the start for the victorious Beavers, tossing seven innings, striking out five, allowing an opponent batting average of only .225 and a 1.38 WHIP. Pearce Wilhelm and Connor White pitched the final two innings for the Beavers, striking out a combined three batters.

Moose Jaw Miller Express vs Swift Current 57’s 0 – 2

The second-place Swift Current 57’s picked up another victory after they defeated the Moose Jaw Miller Express 2-0. Swift Current is currently 6-4 in their last 10 games and the win improves their season record to 13-8, while Moose Jaw fall to .500, with a 10-10 record.

It was a quiet night for the bats after the pitchers for both teams were stellar, but Jack Large pulled threw for his 57’s teammates after he went 1-4 with an RBI, reaching base twice in the game. 57’s infielder, Toby Allred also drove in a run in the victory.

Zach Patterson thew an absolute gem for Swift Current after he got the nod on the mound. The right hander tossed eight innings, striking out 11, only allowing two hits.

Fort McMurray Giants vs Okotoks Dawgs 1 – 2

The Okotoks Dawgs continue to climb higher and separate themselves from the rest of the WCBL’s West Divison teams after they defeated the Fort McMurray Giants 2-1. The win improves the Dawgs record to 17-5, putting them five games ahead of the second place Lethbridge Bulls, while the loss buries the Giants even lower in the standings as they fall to 8-13.

Dawgs outfielder, Tristan Peters drove in one run in his teams victory, going 1-4, while his teammate, Brett Easau drove in the other run for his team, finishing the night 0-3 with a sacrifice fly.

Nolan Ruff tossed six innings for his Dawgs, striking out seven, allowing only one earned run, and an opponent batting average of .210.
