Brooks Bombers Name 2023 Coaches
The Brooks Bombers have announced a new coaching staff, hiring Blake Rowlett and David Ellis for the 2023 Western Canadian Baseball League (WCBL) season.
“First, we would like to sincerely thank Head Coach Brice Davis and Assistant Coach Jake Lindmeier for their contributions and helping the team reach new levels of success in 2022. It was not an easy decision, however, our organization felt we needed to go a different direction for the 2023 season,” said the Bombers in a press release.
“Blake is not a stranger to the Bombers, as he was hired to manage the 2020 team before the COVID-19 pandemic cancelled the season. Blake’s recruiting prowess was very evident with the team he had assembled for that season. Due to Blake’s current coaching position in Arizona, he was not able to accept the job for the 2022 season. However, we are very excited to have Blake, a former WCBL champion, return and lead the Bombers into the 2023 campaign.”
Rowlett won a WCBL title as an infielder with the Medicine Hat Mavericks in 2014 and he also suited up for the Okotoks Dawgs.
He is currently the Head Coach at Post Grad Sports (PGS) Baseball. PGS is a gap year college in Scottsdale, Arizona. In his two years running PGS, they have compiled winning seasons in both years. Prior to PGS, Rowlett was the Executive Director and Head Baseball Coach of the Post Grad Program at Combine Academy in North Carolina. He has outstanding success in player development and placement of players at the collegiate level. Prior to Combine, he was the owner and founder of High Intent Training (H.I.T.) in Nashville, Tennessee. H.I.T. has developed into a popular indoor training facility in just nine months with over 200 clients.
Prior to opening H.I.T., Rowlett played for three different professional teams in two leagues. He played in both the American Association and the Frontier League. In college, Blake played at the Junior College and NCAA Division 1 levels. At Jackson State Community College, Blake hit 19 home runs with 81 walks, while posting a very respectable .361 batting average. After Jackson State, Blake transferred to East Tennessee State University (ETSU) where he homered 20 times and accumulated 75 more walks. He was an All-Conference player, with a career .316 average in college. Rowlett was a standout at every level that he played. Blake graduated from ETSU with a bachelor of arts in interdisciplinary studies.
David Ellis enters his first year as Assistant Coach for the Brooks Bombers. He played two years as a right-handed pitcher for the nationally ranked Phoenix College Bears, where he made 27 appearances. David currently serves as the Director of Baseball Operations/Assistant Coach for PGS.
“Blake, David and General Manager Jason Wandler have been hard at work recruiting and currently have over one-third of the roster completed, including returning catching duo Jimmy Costin and Chris Akers. We are very excited to welcome Blake and David to Brooks next summer in a quest for our first WCBL championship,” read the media release from the Bombers.
