WCBL 2022 Season Schedule

The Western Canadian Baseball League (WCBL) schedule for the 2022 season has been released. You can now start to plan your summer at many of our great ballparks!

Here are some schedule highlights for the upcoming season: 

Opening Day – Thursday, May 26th at Spitz Stadium  

  • The defending WCBL champion Lethbridge Bulls open at home versus the Sylvan Lake Gulls for a special night to honour Mitch Ball, a longtime league umpire who passed away last year. The second game of the three-game set at Spitz Stadium on Friday, May 27th will see the Bulls raise their 2021 championship banner.  

Opening Weekend – Friday, May 27th to Sunday, May 29th

  • The last weekend in May features a number of season-opening dates for WCBL clubs. The Okotoks Dawgs play host to the Brooks Bombers at Seaman Stadium, while the Fort McMurray Giants welcome the Edmonton Prospects to Shell Place for their first home game since 2019. In Saskatchewan, the Moose Jaw Miller Express will roll out the red carpet for the Medicine Hat Mavericks in action under the Friday night lights, and the Weyburn Beavers will take on the Swift Current 57’s at Tom Laing Park.
  • The Mavs play their home opener against the Miller Express at a newly-renovated Athletic Park on Sunday, May 29th. Swift Current’s Sunday matinee versus the Regina Red Sox at Mitchell Field will mark the 57’s home debut. Elks Field in Brooks, meanwhile, will see the Bulls take the field for home-opening ceremonies alongside the Bombers for a late afternoon tilt to close out the weekend. 

More Home Openers – Tuesday, May 31st & Wednesday, June 1st

  • The Regina Red Sox renew hostilities against Swift Current at Currie Field the evening of May 31st, and the Edmonton Prospects stage their home-away-from-home opener at Centennial Park Field 9 in Sherwood Park when the Sylvan Lake Gulls flock to town that night. Sylvan Lake kicks off their second season of baseball at Gulls Stadium on Wednesday, June 1st with a contest against the Okotoks Dawgs.

Lethbridge Baseball Festival – Friday, June 3rd to Sunday, June 5th

  • A full slate of baseball activities will take place in Lethbridge when the Prospects visit Spitz Stadium for a four-game set against the Bulls during the first weekend of June. The Lethbridge Baseball Festival will include double-header action between the two Alberta teams on Saturday, June 4th.

Father’s Day – Sunday, June 19th

  • A full slate of games will take place in Alberta and Saskatchewan, including an unconventional double-header at Currie Field in Regina, where the Red Sox will host the Gulls in the afternoon before they face the Beavers in the night cap. Elsewhere, the Dawgs welcome Moose Jaw to Seaman Stadium; the Mavericks square off against the 57’s at Athletic Park; the Prospects trade pitches with the Giants in Sherwood Park; and the Bulls return to Brooks to take on the Bombers.

Canada Day – Friday, July 1st

  •  Canada Day action will feature a pair of day games and five night games involving WCBL squads. Weyburn visits Regina, while the Bombers travel to Lethbridge for the afternoon tilts. Overflowing stadiums are anticipated in Okotoks (vs Edmonton), Medicine Hat (vs Swift Current), Moose Jaw (vs Weyburn) and Fort McMurray (vs Sylvan Lake). Spitz Stadium will see the Bombers and Bulls complete the second leg of a doubleheader that night and fireworks are expected to cap off the festivities at our ballparks.

Baseball Day in Canada – Thursday, July 21st 

  • The second annual Baseball Day in Canada celebration will invite four teams to one stadium for a full night of fun. Gulls Stadium will host the Regina Red Sox and the Edmonton Prospects for a game that starts at 4:05 pm, followed by a matchup involving Sylvan Lake and the Moose Jaw Miller Express at 8:05 pm. More details of this event will be revealed at a later date.

WCBL All-Star Game – Saturday, July 23rd

  •  The league’s best hitters and pitchers will take to the diamond at Seaman Stadium in Okotoks for this special day of all-star action, which will include a home run derby, a concert, baseball celebrities and post-game fireworks. Get your tickets now!

August Long Weekend – Monday, August 1st

  • When the calendar flips to August, the month will start off with a quartet of holiday games. Regina and Weyburn will do battle at Currie Field; the Gulls and Bulls will step between the chalk lines in Lethbridge; the Giants will venture into Bomber Nation in Brooks; and the Mavericks will stampede to Swift Current for a contest against the 57’s at Mitchell Field.

Little Leaguers Dream Big – Wednesday, August 3rd

  • Calgary plays host to the 2022 Little League Canadian Championship and the Okotoks Dawgs are rolling out the red carpet for the participating teams on Aug. 3rd. The Little League squads will be invited to attend Seaman Stadium that night for a matchup between the Dawgs and the Lethbridge Bulls.

Fan Appreciation Events – Wednesday, August 3rd to Saturday, August 6th

  • The last week of the regular season will include a number of fan appreciation celebrations. The Prospects will welcome the Giants to Sherwood Park, while the Beavers host Regina at Tom Laing Park on Wednesday, Aug. 3rd. Moose Jaw opens the doors of Ross Wells Park to the Red Sox on Thursday, Aug. 4th, and Sylvan Lake invites the Bombers to Gulls Stadium that date, as well. On Friday, Aug. 5th, the Dawgs play Brooks at Seaman Stadium and Regina takes on the 57’s in the Queen City. The regular-season schedule wraps up on Saturday, Aug. 6th with a final flurry of action in Fort McMurray, Medicine Hat, Lethbridge, Brooks and Swift Current.

WCBL Postseason in mid-August 

  • Playoffs open up for the eight teams left standing on Monday, August 8th. They are expected to take approximately 10 days to complete.
